Prada Fall/Winter 2018 Ready-to-Wear Review

Though self-referential, Prada's latest collection still proposed new silhouettes and ways of dressing. Layers of neon tulle mixed with signature black nylon created a great contrast and gave the collection emotion. Futurism is an inescapable trend that has appeared down several runways this season. Looking to the past tropes about how the future may look (Blade Runner or Barbarella are two often-referenced film examples) have appeared in metallic finishes, sharp eyewear, sleek silhouettes, and technical fabrics. This Prada collection differed from other designers this season because of the use of color. Lime greens, honey yellows, hot pinks, and everything in between created a dynamic that's instantly recognizable.

Outside of the show space, massive neon signs in various graphic shapes including the Prada logo were perched above massive buildings. A drone capturing the live stream wizzed through those signs, and up to the floor to ceiling windows of the show space, capturing everything from the outside in once the show began. Technological innovation is something that must be integrated into luxury fashion brands if they want to remain relevant and creative. Many say that fashion cannot create something never seen before in this day and age. Prada has the opportunity to combat the those naysayers if they want to invest in their future.
